The New York Magazine // Little Ukraine
A series of traditional Ukrainian-inspired patterns created for a special print issue of New York Magazine highlighting Little Ukraine in New York City’s East Village.
The assignment involved developing a set of repeatable background motifs inspired by Ukrainian embroidery traditions, balancing cultural symbolism and historical references with a contemporary editorial aesthetic. I researched traditional patterns, colors, and motifs before developing hand-drawn designs that captured the feeling of a handmade textile.
The final patterns were adapted for print production and used as decorative elements throughout the feature.
